About

Catia Berni

Catia Berni was born in Castelfiorentino (Florence).
In 1992 she left her studies in literature and philosophy to dedicate herself definitively to ceramics painting. She initially painted following the classic style of Tuscan craft decorations, thus acquiring a remarkable technical mastery, but it is only in recent years that, trying to respond to her own artistic needs, she begins to experiment with new forms of painting.
Today her current production is characterized by a unique and unmistakable style, elegant and essential, producing refined objects that stand out for their beauty and originality.
Her laboratory is currently in Siena.
Over the years she has participated to the following exhibitions and fairs:

  • 2013 "Terra Futura" Fair, Fortezza da Basso, Florence.
  • 2014 "Mani art exhibition", San Gimignano.
  • 2015 "Arte sulle rive dell'Arno", GAMEC, modern art center Pisa.
  • 2015 "The way of art", Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, London.
  • 2018 "Kerstfair" Fair, Beesd, Holland.

She has recently completed specific work commissions for Toscana Resort Castelfalfi Tui Blue Selection and is currently involved in the design of furnishing ceramics and interior design for the Agriturismo Cascina Migliorate, Milan.

Painting

Catia's Point

... a painting characterized by a very personal choice of punctiform elements, combined with lines that highlight the shape of the support but are also able to get rid of them, bringing our attention to imagine other spaces by participating in a fantasy game in where we find the sense of creative work ...

... the eye is lost in an elegant amalgamation of chiaroscuro and patient sign distribution techniques and, despite the absolute modernity of the language, one is inevitably captured by something ancient. Original, personal and unrepeatable decorations that seduce for the complexity of the textures, for the refined taste in the combination of colors and for their immediate beauty ...

... the combination of improvisation and sense of harmony creates the hypnotic pleasure of these ceramic items, which are able to express an essential elegance, guided by a very free pictorial instinct, prone to play but definitely committed to achieving a remarkable refinement...

My ceramics are unique pieces hand painted with natural oxides.
The collection is constantly enriched and joins the frequent commissioned works.
